The SnowFlakes Team, me included, took part to the big international Salpa-Jukola orienteering relay event in Virolahti. On Saturday there was the “Venlojen Viesti” where I run the last of the four relay parts. We had also a lady team taking part to the “mens” relay which started at 22.55 Saturday evening - and the 1500 headlamps looked pretty impressive as you can see from the photo above!

I was sailing in the Team Penelope in the WB Sails Round the Buyous Race 5.6.2011. So much fun to do fleet racing after a while! There were about 60 boats, some of them over 50 feets, so imagine five of them rounding a mark at the same time. So pretty much hustle with the big boats. More photos here.

Rock Climbing

Why why why I didn’t start this before!? I’ve been climbing indoors a bit more than a year now but this May was the first time for me to climb outside. It was so different and I enjoyed it a lot! Feels somehow a bit more dangerous but also so much more natural. Until now I’ve visited couple of places here in the southern Finland: Havukallio in Hollola and Solvalla in Espoo. Planning to spent the midsummer rock climbing as well!

My First Half Marathon.

As a part of Kalevan Kierros I run my first ever half marathon in Varkaus. I planned to start with 5:30 to 5:40 min/km speed but I was so excited that it was 5:07 in the beginning. Then during the third kilometer I got this stupid side stitch - probably because drinking too much just before the start. In around half way there were pretty many loooooong uphills. They weren’t steep but still pretty exhausting in sunny weather. In around 16km my right thigh started to feel heavy but luckily the time was then 1,5h so I knew that I will complete the run in around 2h. My goal was 2:10 and the my time was 2:01:54. So I’m pretty happy! Next time less than two hours then!

SnowFlakes canoeing in Estonia

This is my first year in the SnowFlakes Adventure Team so this was the first time me to participate in the annual “May day” canoeing trip. I was home only four days after Norway and then this! But this Estonia trip was such a comfort because I really missed Norway already a lot. Salla organized everything well and all we had to do was just to enjoy and paddle. We canoed about 40km during the weekend in the Halliste river in Soomaa National Park. The weather was great and surprisingly warm - it was raining only once when we made camp on the second evening. Next year maybe a bit more challenging white water canoeing!

My nephew and my brother. The little one was born on the 27.4. Just one day after I came back from Norway - he decided to wait for me!

Falling in love with Lyngen…

Love love love. Hard to even describe how much I enjoyed this trip in North of Norway, in Lyngen. These two amazing weeks consisted of off piste skiing, ski randonnee, avalanche course, alpine climbing, friends, good sunny weather, stormy winds, powder snow, wet snow, many falls and many learned things. I climbed about 7900m vertical during the trip! At least for now on I do know where to spent my Easter holidays.

Snow, sun, skiing & friends

My friends organized a snow kiting camp in Ylläs in Lapland and even though I don’t kite a wanted to go along to do some downhill skiing.. especially in order to practice some offpiste skiing before the Norway trip. The weather was great! Mostly sun! On top of the Ylläs “mountain” in around 900m there was very strong icy wind every day but with proper clothing it was just fun.
